About the Project
The FUBIC (Business and Innovation Center next to Freie Universität Berlin Campus) is being built on a site directly next to Freie Universität Berlin (FUB) in Berlin-Dahlem. The text is published by WISTA Management GmbH, which is named as author. The project's core is a new innovation centre in a former US military hospital on Fabeckstraße, where up to 80 companies are to settle once the building is complete, set in a park-like area with old trees.
Funding and Space
- The FUBIC building and the campus infrastructure are being built with GRW funds (Mittel zur Verbesserung der regionalen Wirtschaftsstruktur), with a funding rate of 90 %.
- The usable floor area across the whole campus is about 66,000 square metres: about 30,000 in the FUBIC and 3,000 to 6,500 square metres in each of six further planned buildings.
- 60 % of the FUBIC space is reserved for founders.
- The sixth floor is built without funding, so it has no restrictions on the age or size of companies that move in.
Setting and Partners
The text describes Dahlem as a scientific environment that includes Freie Universität Berlin, which has 35,000 students and is named among German universities with the most start-up foundings, and institutions such as the Max Planck Institutes, the Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) and the Zuse-Institut Berlin (ZIB).
Facilities and Services
The centre offers offices, physics and chemistry laboratories and flexible coworking spaces, with a technical equipment described as up to date and a low rent for start-ups. Listed facilities include conference rooms, a public cafeteria with terrace, server rooms, storage, an underground car park, e-mobility charging points and a roof terrace.
Purpose and Target Groups
The project aims to provide modern workplaces for a knowledge-based industry in a green setting close to science, for technology-oriented start-ups and young companies in life science, health and computer science, as well as for established firms seeking proximity to science and start-ups.
