CLEVERFOOD is a European Union-funded project working to connect people and initiatives involved in changing Europe’s food system. Its stated aim is a fair, healthy and sustainable system, aligned with EU frameworks including FOOD 2030, the Farm to Fork Strategy, the EU Bioeconomy Strategy and Fit for 55. The project runs from January 2023 to December 2026 and is coordinated by the University of Copenhagen.213
Its approach combines three strands: Policy Labs, Living Labs and pan-European public engagement. Policy Labs support the development of food-policy governance and peer learning; Living Labs bring together local and regional actors to test and advance change; and public-engagement activities use participatory formats such as workshops, dialogue meetings and citizen-science tools. The project also aims to connect these efforts through FOOD 2030 networks, linking projects and labs across countries.3
The consortium includes 23 partners from nine countries, spanning organisations such as universities, city networks, science centres and food-sector groups.36 Its activities include a public-facing online platform and an interactive food-systems exhibition co-created by project partners.1112 In a reporting update, the project described a network of 130 projects and 109 city regions across 31 countries, alongside outreach through toolkits, training and exhibitions.2 These are reported progress figures; the project is scheduled to continue through the end of 2026.2
