By & Havn is Copenhagen’s city-development and harbour company. It develops land in the city and manages Copenhagen Harbour, with a stated aim of creating neighbourhoods that combine housing, public spaces and community life. Its work includes planning and building development areas, selling and leasing land, and operating the recreational harbour; commercial port operations are handled through its subsidiary, Copenhagen Malmö Port AB.1510
The company was established in 2007 as Udviklingsselskabet By & Havn I/S. Copenhagen Municipality owns 95 per cent and the Danish state 5 per cent.4 Its registered address is Nordre Toldbod 7 in Copenhagen, and its managing director is Nanna Westerby Jensen. Its activities are concentrated in Copenhagen, particularly Ørestad, Nordhavn and the harbour.45
Among its major projects is Lynetteholm, which By & Havn is responsible for developing and constructing. The company also contributes to financing parts of the Nordhavn Tunnel, while its wider portfolio includes the Stejlepladsen and Fælledby developments.27 The organisation’s public-facing work also includes the exhibition Havnebygmesterens Studiesamling, which presents the history of Copenhagen Harbour through its archive.1 Its 2024–2027 business strategy describes an ambition to develop neighbourhoods with parks and public spaces, alongside a harbour used for recreation, community activities and freight.1
