Movia is Denmark’s largest public transport company, owned by the 45 municipalities and two regions on Zealand and the surrounding islands. It was established on 1 January 2007 as part of Denmark’s structural reform, bringing together earlier regional transport companies. Its headquarters are in Valby, Copenhagen. 1912
The company advises its public owners on public transport and mobility, and plans and coordinates bus, local rail and flexible transport services across the two regions. In 2025, Movia carried about 173 million passengers across nearly 413 bus routes, 11 local railway lines and seven Flextrafik services. 1113
Movia’s work includes adapting services to local needs and changing travel patterns. Recent examples include a Nærbus service on Vestmøn, connecting an area without other bus routes to services toward Stege and Vordingborg, and a trial extending Flextur journeys through the night in Holbæk, Egedal and Furesø. 1 It has also tested electric minibuses in Flextrafik with Region Zealand, and worked with municipalities and Region Hovedstaden on bus-network changes associated with the opening of the southern section of the Ring 3 light rail in 2025. 17
Movia is led day to day by chief executive Dorthe Nøhr Pedersen; its executive team includes directors responsible for customers and communications, resources and advisory services, bus and rail, and flexible mobility. 12 Its governing board is appointed by the municipalities and regions that own the company. 911
