London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) is the public body behind Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in east London. Formed in April 2012, it was created to carry forward the legacy of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and to turn the park and its surrounding area into a long-term economic, social and cultural asset for the capital.
LLDC’s mandate goes beyond managing a venue. It is responsible for the development of the park and the wider regeneration area, with a focus on physical renewal, local opportunity and investment. Its work includes planning and delivering development, supporting jobs and skills, and helping shape East Bank, the major cultural and education district on the park. East Bank brings together institutions such as UCL East, the V&A, Sadler’s Wells East, London College of Fashion and the BBC Music Studios.
The organisation is based in Stratford, London, and operates on a local basis, with its remit centred on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and the surrounding east London area. Through the park, LLDC also supports a wider mix of public activity: sporting venues, parklands, visitor routes, community spaces, cultural programming and commercial uses. The park hosts major attractions and projects such as London Stadium, the London Aquatics Centre, Copper Box Arena, Lee Valley VeloPark and the ArcelorMittal Orbit, alongside newer developments and events.
LLDC describes its role as creating a “dynamic new heart for east London,” with an emphasis on opportunities for local people and growth driven by redevelopment, leisure, culture and innovation.
