KOMBIT A/S is a municipally owned IT organisation that works on behalf of Denmark’s municipalities. Established on 20 May 2009, it took over activities and staff from the former Kommune Holding; the company is wholly owned by Local Government Denmark (KL). 2
Based in Copenhagen, KOMBIT brings municipalities together to procure, manage, operate and develop shared digital systems and infrastructure. Its work includes coordinating projects and negotiating with technology suppliers, with the aim of providing stable services for municipalities, residents and businesses. 211
The organisation’s national portfolio includes 30 shared IT solutions. Examples named on its LinkedIn company page include Aula, Borgerblikket, DUBU, NemRefusion and the municipal sickness-benefit system. 16 Its current priorities include renewing shared IT infrastructure, supporting municipal use of data and AI, and connecting digital work with climate action. 1
Recent initiatives include Athene, a data platform intended to help municipalities access information and track trends across service areas, and an AI assistant that brings together more than 11,000 pages of climate knowledge and examples to support municipal climate-action plans. 1 KOMBIT has also contracted Aeven to establish, operate and maintain a new shared operations platform; the announced contract is worth nearly DKK 700 million and runs for 12 years. 1
