FUTR HUB is the urban data competence centre of Urban Tech Republic in Berlin, created to support the digital infrastructure of Berlin TXL, the redevelopment project on the former Tegel Airport site. Its role is to bring together urban data, connect it across systems and make it usable for planning and operating new city districts. The centre is part of a broader effort to position Berlin TXL as a testbed for smart-city applications, with an emphasis on secure data use, interoperability and practical implementation.
The organisation’s core asset is a data platform that collects, links and provides access to data from across the urban environment. According to its own materials, the platform is intended to support day-to-day operations of the district, while also enabling new data-driven services and applications. The stated areas of work include energy, mobility, environment, water, housing and construction. FUTR HUB also uses predictive data analysis to support decision-making and resource management.
A central working method is the “development partnership”, a collaborative format in which stakeholders identify use cases and develop solutions together. This includes public and private actors, researchers, operators and technical partners. The hub presents this as the basis for data governance, security and interoperability across district systems.
FUTR HUB is located in Berlin, Germany, and is embedded in Urban Tech Republic, the research and industrial park developed at Tegel. Its scope is primarily local to Berlin TXL, but the organisation explicitly frames its work as relevant to smart cities beyond Berlin as well.
