Cluster Energietechnik Berlin-Brandenburg is a regional innovation cluster that brings together companies, researchers and public actors around energy technology in Germany’s capital region. Established in 2011, it operates as part of the joint innovation strategy innoBB 2025 of the states of Berlin and Brandenburg. The cluster’s role is to connect science and industry, support project development at an early stage, and strengthen the competitiveness of the region in areas linked to the energy transition.
Its scope covers renewable energy, energy efficiency, energy grids and storage systems, and hydrogen. The cluster says the region is home to more than 6,400 companies and around 58,000 employees in the energy technology sector. By linking firms with research institutions, the cluster aims to accelerate the development and market uptake of new products and services.
The cluster management is a joint responsibility of Wirtschaftsförderung Land Brandenburg GmbH (WFBB) and Berlin Partner for Business and Technology GmbH. Public-facing activities include networking formats, conferences, thematic tours, newsletters and information services for companies and stakeholders. Among the recurring formats highlighted on its website are hydrogen tours across regions of Brandenburg, designed to showcase local projects and actors in the hydrogen value chain.
In practical terms, the cluster functions as a coordination platform for consortia, knowledge exchange and thematic collaboration across the Berlin-Brandenburg area. Its work is regional in scope but tied to national energy policy debates, especially the restructuring of energy systems and the industrial implications of the energy transition.
