AQUANET-BB was a network for the water sector in Berlin and Brandenburg, with a focus on bringing together companies, research institutes and higher-education institutions. Based in Berlin, Germany, it worked mainly across the Berlin-Brandenburg metropolitan region and positioned itself at the interface between applied research and practice in water management.
According to the organisation’s own website, AQUANET operated until 31 December 2020. After the funding period ended, the network stopped its active work and the site has since been maintained as documentation. During its active years, the network’s core aim was to connect different water-related competences and to pool expertise on water and wastewater. It sought to give companies easier access to research results from institutes and universities, with the stated goal of turning that exchange into joint research and development projects.
AQUANET’s thematic scope covered the wider water cycle. Its website lists topics such as drinking water, rainwater, wastewater, bodies of water, groundwater and process water. The network also described itself as a voice for smaller actors in dialogue with politics and public administration in Berlin and Brandenburg.
The organisation was based in Berlin, with contact and legal addresses in central Berlin. Publicly listed contact details identify Dirk Pritsch as network manager and editorial contact. The legal form shown in the imprint is a registered association, Verein zur Förderung des Wasserwesens e.V.
One of AQUANET’s recurring activities was the AQUA AWARD and AQUA SCIENCE AWARD, presented to recognise sector initiatives and research. The site also refers to working groups, including an AG Regenwasser, indicating practical collaboration on stormwater-related issues.
