Tech:NYC is a nonprofit organisation based in New York City that represents the city’s technology sector and advocates for policies that support innovation, talent and business growth. Founded in 2016, it has grown into a network of tech leaders that works across government, business, civic institutions and the media to promote New York’s tech economy.
The organisation says its mission is to help sustain a dynamic, diverse and creative New York by supporting a strong technology ecosystem and attracting top-tier talent. Its work is focused on New York City, with policy engagement extending to both city and state government. Tech:NYC also places emphasis on workforce development, access to opportunity and inclusion across the local tech economy.
A major part of its activity is policy advocacy. Tech:NYC mobilises the expertise and resources of member companies to shape a regulatory environment that supports technology companies and technology workers. It also publishes research and reports on the city’s tech sector, presenting data on employment, startup growth and ecosystem value. In its 2025 snapshot, Tech:NYC described New York as the second-largest and second-most-valuable tech hub in the world.
Beyond advocacy, the organisation runs programmes that connect talent with the sector. Its foundation supports education, volunteering and workforce initiatives aimed at reducing digital inequality and improving career readiness. One recent example is the Grid Fellowship, a civic leadership programme linking senior technology leaders with issues shaping the city, including housing and urban systems. Tech:NYC also operates a job board for NYC tech roles and publishes regular blog posts on developments in the local ecosystem.
