Tech:NYC is a New York City-based nonprofit that represents the city’s technology industry in discussions with government, civic institutions, businesses and the media. Founded in May 2016, it was established to help attract technology talent to New York and support policies that enable technology companies to start and grow there.1
The organisation was founded by venture capitalist Fred Wilson, then-AOL chief executive Tim Armstrong, and Julie Samuels, a startup-policy advocate who became its president and CEO.12 Its work is focused on New York City and State: it brings technology companies and leaders together to engage with public officials on legislation and regulation, while also advocating on broader civic issues such as social justice, quality of life and government services.6
Alongside policy work, Tech:NYC runs programs connecting technology with education and community needs. Its CS Fair introduces public high school students to technology careers; FutureReadyNYC offers students hands-on career exploration through micro-internships; and Decoded Futures helps nonprofits use AI tools to address local challenges.6 The organisation has also highlighted Empire AI and Startup:NYC among initiatives connected to New York’s technology ecosystem.78
