Otwarte Dane m.st. Warszawy is the City of Warsaw’s public-data service, based in Warsaw, Poland. It makes information about the city’s operations available for residents, developers, researchers and organisations to reuse. The city describes open data as part of its approach to using information to improve urban management.2
The initiative dates to 2015, when Warsaw launched its first open-data platform, initially at api.um.warszawa.pl.2 The current dane.um.warszawa.pl service is presented as a new version intended to replace the earlier portal.9 The available sources identify the City of Warsaw as the operator; they do not name an individual founder or project lead.
The catalogue brings together datasets from city departments and municipal entities. Its subject areas include public transport, spatial information, education, sport and recreation, and city services.1112 Data is offered without charge and through an API, allowing external users to build applications and other services from municipal information.26
A related city platform, iot.warszawa.pl, presents selected data in a visual format for residents, complementing the API-oriented service.6 The city’s open-data work has also supported application-building initiatives: in 2015, Warsaw announced a competition inviting participants to create websites or smartphone applications using public datasets.12 The service’s geographic scope is local, focused on the capital city and its municipal operations.211
