Green Building Council Finland (FIGBC) is a non-profit organisation focused on the Finnish property and construction sector. Based in Helsinki, it brings together organisations across the built environment value chain, from design and construction to ownership and operation. Its stated mission is to lead the sector’s sustainability transition and to help build a real estate and construction industry that can succeed within the planet’s limits.
FIGBC works as a national platform for collaboration, knowledge-sharing and policy influence. It publishes practical tools and roadmaps for reducing emissions, advancing circular economy practices and improving material efficiency. The organisation also uses its network to support members in understanding regulation and preparing for changes such as energy-efficiency requirements and the EU’s EPBD framework. A recurring focus is on turning climate targets into concrete action at company and sector level.
One of FIGBC’s most visible activities is the publication of “roadmaps” prepared by organisations in the sector. These roadmaps are presented as examples for others developing their own plans to cut emissions systematically. FIGBC also organises seminars, training webinars and member briefings, including events on low-carbon construction, product-level climate and nature impacts, and participation in the annual World Green Building Week campaign.
The organisation is the Finnish member of the World Green Building Council, which gives it an international connection, but its main scope is national. Its messaging combines climate mitigation, circularity and biodiversity loss as interconnected challenges for the built environment. In policy terms, FIGBC also promotes measures for the Finnish government programme, linking construction policy to economic growth and new business opportunities.
