Finnish Energy, known in Finnish as Energiateollisuus ry, is the main trade and labour-market advocacy organisation for Finland’s energy sector. Based in Helsinki, it represents companies that produce, procure, transmit and sell electricity, gas and district heating, as well as firms involved in related energy services and infrastructure. Its mandate is national, but its policy work is closely tied to the European energy transition, which the organisation frames as a competitiveness issue for Finland.
The association’s public role is to influence energy and climate policy, support the functioning of energy markets, and promote the conditions for investment in the energy system. It regularly publishes statements, policy positions, news, statistics and research on topics such as electricity use, district heating emissions, distribution network investments, nuclear power expertise, and the impacts of geopolitics on energy security. It also provides a platform for discussions on the social sustainability of the energy sector and the future of Finland’s energy system.
A recurring theme in its recent communications is the need for investment in electricity distribution networks and other energy infrastructure. One of its highlighted initiatives is the “Finlandia Declaration” from March 2025, in which the technology, chemical, forestry and energy industries jointly called for measures to renew Finnish industry and accelerate sustainable growth. The organisation also uses campaigns such as “Muutosenergia” to broaden the public image of the sector and bring forward a wider range of experts.
Finnish Energy appears as a central voice for a sector that is both regulated and strategic in Finland’s economy, with activities ranging from lobbying and labour-market issues to statistics, events and public debate.
