CLIC Innovation is a Helsinki-based open innovation cluster that works to turn sustainability goals into practical research and innovation projects. Its mission is focused on three areas: bioeconomy, circular economy and future energy systems. The organisation brings together companies, research institutes, public actors and other stakeholders to develop solutions that no single actor could build alone.
Founded in Finland and operating from Helsinki, CLIC Innovation describes itself as a not-for-profit innovation company. It designs, coordinates and manages R&D&I projects and broader innovation ecosystems, with an emphasis on project preparation, consortium building and international collaboration. The cluster says its work spans the full path from curiosity-driven research to demonstrations, and it supports both national and EU-level cooperation.
CLIC Innovation’s geographic scope is clearly European. It works with partners across Finland, the Nordics and the wider EU, and highlights its role in connecting Finnish organisations to international networks and funding opportunities. Its structure is built around strategic themes, including bioeconomy, circular economy, energy, water, 4Recycling and GreenE2.
Among its concrete activities, CLIC Innovation manages project portfolios, supports consortium agreements and hosts ecosystem work such as the 4R ecosystem, which focuses on plastics recycling and bio-based alternatives. In bioeconomy, it has been involved in projects on fibre- and cellulose-based products, biorefining, bioplastics and bioenergy. Its website also notes significant cumulative results, including more than 100 million euros in partner funding enabled.
CLIC Innovation marks over a decade of activity and presents itself less as a traditional association than as a coordination platform for complex sustainability projects.
