About the Document
This is a project description for the New York City Panel on Climate Change 2019 Report (NPCC3), published on a Columbia University climate page. It sets out the panel's work groups, their tasks and the outcomes funded under one grant. The page does not describe a study's findings.
Work Group Tasks
The NPCC3 work groups are to:
- Advance regional climate projections for complex extreme events, including intense precipitation, humidity, heatwaves and storms.
- Survey community members and review literature on climate resiliency, with a focus on health and equity.
- Analyse critical interdependencies in infrastructure resilience across the wider New York metropolitan region.
- Develop and test a prototype of the NYC Climate Resiliency Indicators and Monitoring System.
- Create mapping products on risk and uncertainty, and publish a peer-reviewed NPCC3 Report.
Grant Scope
The grant covers Work Group 5, the Mapping and Risk Work Group, which develops maps that communicate risk, vulnerability and resiliency across New York City. It also supports research coordination for Work Group 4, the Indicators and Monitoring Work Group, which provides broad indicators and metrics for stresses on critical infrastructure.
Planned Outcomes for New York City
The expected outputs are maps highlighting climate change risks, especially potential future flooding from sea level rise. These maps are to be included in the final full NPCC3 Report, where a chapter will be dedicated to mapping climate risks.
